Cowboy Bullseye

This is a "new" sport for cowboy shooters.

Thought it might be fun to do something a little different.  This is COWBOY Bullseye or a Bisley style target match.   Remember you saw it first at Cascade R&P :)  We have a set of rules written up but we would like to start informally at first.

"Shooting Was America’s Number #1 Sport

It may seem hard to imagine now, but in the late 1800s and early 1900s, before baseball became the “national sport”, organized target matches were the most popular sport in this country. Men and women would gather on a Sunday afternoon at their local rifle club or town square to participate in matches which involved shooting at a target 20 or 50 yards away, from the off-hand position. Many of the pictures and lithographs from that era show men dressed in formal attire with a pistol raised and pointed at a distant bullseye target. Skill with either tool was considered to be a “good” thing in those days and something about which to be proud."

Format:
  • Period (1870/1911) guns mandatory!  Period clothing (formal or casual) suggested !
  • Family/kids are welcome!
  •  Shooting?   Pistols only....please use a belt or shoulder holster to carry your gun. No boxes or gun bags.
  • Being armed or "heeled" at lunch is not something we'll frown upon or discourage :)
  • As you might expect this is as much a social event as a shooting match.
  • 50 to 100 rounds will be plenty of ammo.  We will have time for some extra paper punching and fun shoots.  Shooting or cutting cards or maybe tic/tac toe?  If you want to shoot more just make sure you bring more ammo!  You can never have too much ammo :)  There will be a target bullseye match for record shot at 20 yards.  The target has an approximately  5" black bull's eye and a 2" X ring.    Pretty close to what they shot originally in the late 1800's at Bisley target matches.  For the first shoots we'll be using a NRA 25 yard slow fire target.  But I may look into duplicating the original Bisley targets for future matches.
  • To help scoring and save time we will shoot 20 rounds @ 20 yards...not 25 yards.  Again original Bisley distance of 20 yards.  Possible 200 points 20 X for a perfect score.
  • All shooting will be done one handed, unsupported, standing for record.
  • Pre 1909 style single action pistols with fixed sights shoot against each other with no class differences.  Target model single action guns shoot in their own class.   Modern clones with EXTRA large sights will shoot in their own class.  If there is a question MD will make classification calls.  1911s semi autos with original 1911 (not A1 or later ) sights shoot against each other for score.  Modern sighted 1911s shoot for fun and bragging rights.
  • The idea is to challenge yourself and your shooting skills with truly vintage guns and sights.   You'd be amazed at what it will do for your other shooting sports! With the period costumes we hope to remind us all of a slower time when the public held a different and more genteel set of values.
  • ......Don't forget eye and ear protection, handy wipes to clean up with and most importantly your AMMO....
 The eating part......

The E Range, Bays 1 & 2 are reserved for our use.  Eating will be done under a covered firing line with tables.

Bring a lunch, drinks and handi wipes to clean up with.  Better yet bring a pot luck lunch and share.

  • Cost will be $10.00 per shooter.  2nd gun is $5.00    Match targets and "some" fun targets will be supplied.
  • Start time -11AM.  Last Sunday of the month. E range, Bays 1 & 2.
